2010 has been a fine year for albums so far, as The Black Dog released a brilliant ambient album "Music For Real Airports", A Guy Called Gerald returned with the even deeper and more subtle "Tronic Jazz The Berlin Sessions" and Robert Hood served up yet another masterpiece "Omega". There are more albums coming out by Niko Marks, Fabrice Lig and Akin Khan.

DJ 3000 – Galactic Caravan The Remixes [Motech]

[ UGCD-MT005 ]

DJ 3000 gets the remix treatment from his friends and Motech players on this double disc set. The first package is an exploration of modern electronic grooves, which will reward home and club listeners–standouts include the moody Mr De remix of Seven Tribes Of Hoti, Esteban Adame’s graceful revision of Her Smile and a more subtle version of Shawn Rudiman’s Her Smile. The second package wins with stellar displays from Alexander Robotnick, Mark Flash and DJ Bone. Robotnick makes it big with his synth driven electroid sound, Flash goes a mammoth synth led workout and Bone does his epic ABM thang to Meloudic Landscapes.

Tracklisting:

  • Disc 1
    • 01. Heritage (Deviant remix)
    • 02. Seven Tribes Of Hoti (Mr De remix)

Fabrice Lig & Titonton Duvanté – That Connection [Fine Art Recordings]

Belgian techno prince Fabrice Lig teams up with Titonton Duvante for a subtle but deadly musical journey on London-based Fine Art. The original mix sees Duvanté weave Lig’s tones in between scintillating synths and delightful key work. Beanfield supply a gorgeous jazzied remix, where heavenward reaching strings do all the work.

Tracklisting:

  • A. That Connection
  • B. That Connection (Beanfield remix)

Matt Chester – Outrider [11th Hour]

Whereas "Die For A Reason" is as subtle as he comes, "Outrider" is the sort of full on dancefloor assault that Matt Chester is expert at producing. Intergalactic synths, a scary bassline and tough beats do the work on the murderous effort.

Tracklisting:

  • 01. Ghostwritten
  • 02. Salination Plant
  • 03. Reverse Evolution
  • 04. Outrider

Sidearms – Humantics [Logos Recordings]

After the amazing original album, Humantics is back, remixed by Vince Watson. Armed with a magical bassline, melodious keys and glorious strings, Watson has created a trademark mix.

Tracklisting:

  • 01. Humantics (Vince Watson remix)

Spirit Catcher – Sedona EP [Systematic]

Exponents of a deeper brand of future disco, Spirit Catcher bring their exquisite grooves Systematic. Sedona is a pleasurable tech-discoid winner, with heartfelt chords, slick percussion and sweet keys.

Various – Beings Of Sound [Subject Detroit]

[ SUB-026 ]

Hot on the heels of seven corking singles comes the great compilation single. DJ Bone provides the Detroit Vibe. Trench takes a sci-fi voyage. Stephen Brown turns in another hi-tek soul. Rennie Foster delivers Advanced Black Music. Very strong indeed.

Tracklisting:

  • 01. DJ Bone – The Vibe
  • 02. Trench – Arrival
  • 03. Stephen Brown – MG
  • 04. Rennie Foster – Hustle N’ Flow

Nick Solé – Earth [Fine Art]

[ FA07 ]

Fine Art has been a consistently great label in the past couple of years. Hit after hit after hit. This EP is a house classic which reflects his obsession for jazz, downtempo and soul with roots deep in house. Absolutely no need for a remix for this stunning track.

Tracklisting:

  • 01. Earth
  • 02. Earth (Toby Tobias 3PM remix)
  • 03. Earth (Toby Tobias 6AM remix)
  • 04. Beautiful Day

The Youngsters – Babylon Superstars [20:20 Vision]

[ VIS 168 ]

For the younger dancers on today’s floors, the standout track ‘Babylon Superstars’ is positively modern minimal and deserving of some kind of Isolée-esque treatment. I prefer ‘Fukuoaka Underground’ here though – deep, emotional French techno with a large dollop of Motor City. An absolute beauty.

Tracklisting:

  • 01. Babylon Superstars
  • 02. Babylon Superstars (Simon Baker’s Infant mix)
  • 03. Fukuoaka Underground

Pedro Cali – Misty [Fine Art]

[ FA08 ]

Pedro Cali doesn’t need any introduction, you already know that he’s more than capable of coming up with a surefire winner. Well he’s gone and done it again in its original form, this single makes you feel exactly that; ‘Misty’ so simple but insistently brilliant – proper deep techno at its best. ‘The Way’ is the way with his trademark Motown-influenced funkiness that twists and turns. Finally ‘8 Days A Week’ is a proper deep mixture of techno attitude with house sensibilities. The two other remixes by Rodriguez Jr. and Duplex are also fucking good. Rodriguez Jr. remix is a brilliant piece of deep tech-house with a Border Community style moody hook. Beautiful indeed. The Duplex way takes the original and bends it perfectly for quality floors. It’s really powerful ! Ahh Perdo, Olivier, John and Chris, these Beneluxians can do no wrong !

Tracklisting:

  • 01. Misty
  • 02. Misty (Rodriguez Jr. remix)
  • 03. The Way
  • 04. The Way (The Duplex way)
  • 05. 8 Days A Week

We are pleased to announce that Fine Art has started its mailing list.

Fine Art has been a consistently pretty good label in the past couple of years and keeps delivering a twisted, raw, deep electronic music with the young cats such as Gary Beck, Pedro Cali, Lee Holman and Itokim.

Please join the mailing list for free tracks and other goodies !

You can also read the interview I did with the label owner and the artists.
