5 essential stuff

  • Tribe – Rebirth [Community Projects/Planet E]

Wooaw woaw wooooaw. (What can I say ?)
  • Deetron – Zircon/Orange [Music Man]
    [ MM 148 ]
I am a fan of everything Sam Geiser has done with Music Man, and I think this is the best thing he’s done to date. So simple but insistently brilliant.
  • Jeff Mills – The Drummer [Purpose Maker]
    [ PM-022 ]
    More Mills(art) loveliness.
  • Trish Van Eynde – Subject Belgium [Subject Detroit]
    [ SUB-033 ]
Fantastic funkiness, straight forward Subject Detroit music. Trish Van Eynde is on fire.
  • Silent Servant/Santiago Salazar – La Noche/La Minoria [Historia y Violencia]
    [ H&V 002 ]
Those 2 are as nice as always, I like what Historia y Violencia label is doing at the moment.

5 novelties (* all in promo status.)

  • Jolka – The Jolka Experience [Sect] / Davor O. – Transitional Objects Remixes [Matrix]
    [ Sect 6 ] [ Matrix 20 ]
10/10 (The Jolka Experience). No need to say more… "Transitional Objects Remixes" is a simply awesome package of mixes. This is the best thing Matrix has done in a while.
  • Traxx – Faith [Nation]
    [ NAT-007 ]
Classic, great forward thinking house music. Jack your body !!
  • (A guy from D) – (A track on A-Side) [(An UK label)]
(I can’t tell you any details yet……) That D guy returns to an UK quality techno label with sweet, sweet techno stuff. This is what Detroit techno soul is all about.
  • Rennie Foster – Songs For Homeless Housers [Greta Cottage Workshops]
    [ GCW 003 ]
Foster goes house in his own fashion. ‘Butterfingers’ is a really amazing tune, just class production all the way.
  • Mick Welch – Morphological Construct EP [Elektrosouls]
    [ ESR-001 ]
Reminiscent of B12′s work, great melodic stabby winner on new Crawley-based label to definitely look out for.

5 oldies

  • 69 – 4 Jazz Funk Classics [Planet E]
    [ PLE 65307-1 ]
The first record I ever bought – back when I was 14 years old. I must have listened to this stuff a thousand times back then. ‘Ladies & Gentlemen’ sounded like nothing else I had heard before and I still love it. C2 always makes my day.
  • 69 – Lite Music [Planet E]
    [ PLE 65307-1 ]
  • 69 – Sound On Sound [Planet E]
    [ PLE 65307-1 ]
  • 69 – Pungtang [Planet E]
    [ PLE 65307-1 ]
  • The Detroit Experiment – The Detroit Experiment [Planet E]
    [ PE 65272-1 ]

    [ AX-055 ]
Classic artist, classic label, classic record.

    [ PLE 65305-1 ]
Beautiful work as always from Vince Watson.
  • Rolando – The Afterlife EP [Saved Records]
    [ SVALB-02 ]
For me definitely the finest Rolando work since the Aztec Mystic releases – ‘The Afterlife’, a very classy Detroit shit.
  • DJ Bone – Encounter 2 [Bastardo Electrico]
DJ Bone returns with slammin’ Encounter stuff. Thanks to Jamie Behan for making this happen.
  • Santiago Salazar – Arcade [Macro Recordings]
    [ MACROM11 ]
Another S2 gem – once again deepness and darkness. Stefan Goldmann does a fine job too, a gorgeous piece of music.
  • Stefan Goldmann – Art Of Sorrow [Victoriaville]
    [ 4-46074 ]
Biiiiiiig, fucking massive. Goldmann did it again.
  • Dactilar – Phonograph EP [Organica Music Labworks]
    [ ORG 002 ]
Sounds very Detroit/Sheffield inspired. Very good indeed.
  • Mark Broom & Mihalis Safras – Jelle [Soma]
    [ Soma 262 ]
Good as always from these two great producers – Mark and Mihalis are always consistent.

Ican – Pa’ Mi Gente [Planet E]

[ PLE65302-1 ]

Absolutely stunning "Chiclet’s Theme" – I have been playing this for months now. Oh oh ! Santiago and Esteban deliver a stunning eight minutes of analogue techno wonderment. A real techno soul with a gorgeous strings hook that really rocks the spot on a visceral level. One of the best things Ican boys have ever done. The A-side Pá Mi Gente is a fantastic dancefloor latin / techno hybrid thing as always, but it shows amazing maturity and class. And Carl Craig has delivered a corking dub mix for this BRILLIANT single too.

Tracklisting:

  • A1. Pa’ Mi Gente (Vocal mix)
  • A2. Pa’ Mi Gente (C2 Dub mix)
  • B1. Chiclet’s Theme

Kenny Larkin – You Are… / Bassmode [Planet E]

[ PLE 65300-1 ]

The lead track from Detroit techno legend Kenny Larkin’s solo album "Keys, Strings and Tambourines" gets a nigh-on perfect remix from Planet E boss Carl Craig. Dark moody Detroit shit with atmosphere and panache to burn.

Ken Ishii feat. 7th Gate – Sunriser remixes [70Drums]

Good stuff – I haven’t been a big fan of Ken Ishii’s recent stuff but the Spirit Catcher mix works really well and is right up my street for club play. FLR mix is a cool mashup, some great effects and may well drop this in a booze-fuelled backroom scenario !

Tracklisting:

  • 01. Spirit Catcher Other View mix
  • 02. FLR’s Vox Rise mix
  • 03. Publicmind remix
