Chicago-based Kate Simko is a classical pianist turned left field minimal house and techno producer. Releasing music on labels such as Spectral Sound, Kupei Musika and Traum, Kate draws from a wide range of influences, incorporating her sense of melody and structure with her background in Chicago house and Detroit techno. Whether playing live or DJ’ing, Kate’s musical selection maintains a warm, soulful character, combining her many influences to create a unique personal sound that crosses genre borders, blending rich textures, melodies and intricate programming with funk-infused hypnotic grooves. Kate has already performed alongside artists such as Monolake, Richie Hawtin, Michael Mayer, Four Tet, Ellen Allien, John Tejada, Magda, Swayzak and Ulrich Schnauss and she has recently scored the soundtrack for the scientific research documentary film The Atom Snatchers.

SUB-SCAPE presents two of Belgium’s leading exponents of techno FABRICE LIG AKA SOUL DESIGNER and TOMAZ on FRIDAY 1 AUGUST at CAFE CAPITAL in Antwerp’s city park.

Fabrice Lig is one of the few European producers to really make good on Detroit techno’s romantic ideals and the release of his second Soul Designer album entitled "Evolutionism" comes at a time when many are predicting a turn back towards Detroit-styled musicality in techno. Containing many musical influences from jazz to p-funk and house, "Evolutionism" is laced with personality, power, and most importantly, a whole bunch of soul. The pristine production shows Lig’s impressive mastery of his machines and confirms his status as one of modern techno’s finest talents.

Tomaz is a stalwart of the techno scene in Belgium, transmitting the most upfront tracks every week through the Switch show on Studio Brussel.

Mark August’s skills have been in constant demand since his classic "Warm" track was picked up by Dixon’s Innervisions label in 2007. Following on from an equally strong release on Connaisseur, one of his tracks was picked up by Sven Vath for "The Sound of the Eighth Season" mix CD on Cocoon. He has also been selected as one of the featured artists on the latest Cocoon "H" compilation.

SUB-SCAPE presents MLZ aka Miles Whittaker, one half of Pendle Coven and Modern Love luminary, whose Detroit inspired and vintage Warp tinged productions have established the label’s reputation for deep, sparse, emotional output and played a pivotal role in Manchester’s recent renaissance as a hotbed of cutting edge underground club music.
Whether flying solo or as part of Pendle Coven, MLZ is a purveyor of fine funk and hypnotic grooves, laying down fierce squashed basslines with layered slabs of percolating dub chords on top of crisp, future-retro rhythms, fusing influences from Sheffield, Chicago, Detroit and Berlin.
Modern Love’s in-house DJ, MLZ’s skills have become renowned on the underground club circuit of Manchester and beyond.
Anyone who has witnessed him DJ will tell you that he’s quite simply a one-off, blending a wide range of styles into the deepest kind of dancefloor devastation imaginable ! One of his legendary DJ sets at Sonar was described by Wire magazine as the unexpected highlight of the entire festival and every time he plays out he employs his incredible box of delights in unexpected ways, mixing classic cuts with upfront white labels in maverick fashion.

Lee Holman Biography

Lee Holman has been buying records since he first got into house and techno via hip-hop when growing up in the south-east of Ireland. Since then he has gone on to play at many of Ireland’s leading clubs and festivals such as D.E.A.F. and Coloursfest as well as running his own club nights throughout Ireland and regularly guesting on national radio. At the beginning of 2004 he co-founded the Sub-Culture night which later relocated to Antwerp. This concept evolved into SUB-SCAPE and is now firmly established as one of Belgium’s most respected club nights where Lee plays alongside fellow residents Fabrice Lig, Spirit Catcher and Will O’Brien.

As resident, he has guested with some of house and techno’s finest DJ’s and producers including Steve Rachmad, Ian O’Brien, Dan Curtin (Peacefrog), DJ S² (Underground Resistance), Peel Seamus, Aroy Dee, Quinn (Delsin Records), Eamonn Doyle (D1), Âme, Aardvarck, Eddie ‘Flashin’ Fowlkes (Cityboy), Marco Passarani, St. Dic (Fuse), Shed (SoloAction, Berlin), Djinxx (Electronic Resistance), Mark August (Mezzotinto, Curle Recordings) and Ripperton – Lazy Fat People (Planet E Records) amoungst many others. Further guest slots throughout europe for Silo (Leuven) "Working Class Night" and London followed.

This year saw Lee take on a residency for www.livesets.com for the "Interstate 94" radio show along with fellow dj’s Pedro Cali (F… U ! F-Comm), Erell Ranson (AW Recordings) and Tyler Smith (Audiocrash). Music production is also being received well where he has recorded and remixed for labels such as Fine Art and Elevation, with e.p’s also for the legendary Ferox and NightVision Recordings. His material has been played by some of the worlds leading DJ’s including Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Russ Gabriel and Orlando Voorn and has got 5 star reviews in the likes of IDJ and DJ Mag where his remix of Harold Heath’s Mercury Blues was selected for Janurary’s "Money shot". 2007 crescendoed with a live studio guest mix for revered and well respected Belgian Radio "Switch" on Studio Brussels.
